Err, 90W gear oil, of course.

Your statement intrigues me. Explain?
Rick;
The response from Scott is on the money and that site you reference does a good job covering it in depth if you can pick it out from that vast array of text .... I've had such limited time at the computer screen, about 2 years ago I just went and printed off the info from the CALSCI site for 'portable reading'.
I've been meaning to go back and review it to satisfy my memory. I've been using the Rotella T Syn but in reviewing the oil characteristics, the Rotella T non Syn is also a type II (lesser wax base) and also Commercial rated CI-4 Plus having safe buffers and better detergents ... an excellent choice for the non synthetic fans. I probably would have went that route originally but was seduced by the synthetic attributes and Wally prices at that time. It's easy to cost benefit the syn by adjusting the change intervals. I dropped $15.93 as my oil cost based on the bike capacity running the synthetic. I appreciate value but I'm not scrimping where engine or transmission life/performance is a consideration. It's nice when those two considerations intersect. That site makes a good argument for the Purolator filters that are commodity priced as well.

Rick,
I will never be too old to learn something new, thank you!
Yet this sentence taken from the top link you provided would cause me to use caution when substituting oil based solely on viscosity
"BG does not advocate this liberal use of dissimilar oils. In order to be best protected, each application requires matching the right oil with the right additives."
There are additives, inhibitors and modifiers mixed in to make an oil more suitable for certain applications.
The bottom line for me would be to only use the oil recommended (by specification, not brand) by the oem for a given application.
Regards, Dogdoc427
