My sons 80 wont start unless you pre heat the spark plug, then it seems to take quite awhile before you can take the choke off.
Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Welcome Lyle,
My first guess is varnish. Try a stiff Seafoam solution, see if that will burn it out for you.
Look around for air leaks, they would also account for the symptom you describe. |

Thanks niebor, we ran the seafoam through the system and it still ( though better ) wasnt right, but it did run. So we pulled the carb and soaked it in parts cleaner tonight. Seems to run better, now it seems when you give it throttle it doesnt want to slow all the way back down without adjusting the idle. My son has messed with both jet screws. Is there a stock number of turns out for both jet adjustments or what do you think we need to do from here.
Thanks again as it did help a bunch and atleast it will start, run and idle now withouth heating the plug and tons of choke. |

Excellent!
Now I'm thinking air leak. Check each of the boots, make sure there are no large cracks.
Shoe Goo works well for sealing those up. |
