Recently I found myself in need of a new pair of riding boots. I wanted to try a 3/4 length as they look more comfortable for walking. After some research I settled on the Response SC Road Boot from Tour Master. I ordered them from the Internet and followed the directions for sizing. They arrived yesterday and today gave them a try. Impressions. I am sure a 3/4 length boot gives up some protection to that of a full length boot. However, these boots are very sturdy and well made of apparently high quality leather. They claim to be waterproof, we shall see. They are lace up with a large leather cover fitting over the laces with Velcro. So far I am very impressed, they are very comfortable even with the stiffness that comes with a new boot. The tread is very good and has a ton of grip when your foot goes down. They are lighter than what I am use to (Alpine Stars full length) but appear to offer a very good protection for the ankles and toes. Compared to the price of a full length motorcycle specific boot from other well know makers these are a great deal and so far I like them a lot.
I tend to think high quality motorcycle footwear is sometimes overlooked in the ATGATT discussion. Motorcycles have, hot parts, sharp parts, moving parts all of which can impart damage to ones feet and ankles. Not to mention the damage that can occur to your feet in a crash. Aside from that there is just nothing better than the secure feeling you get when coming to a stop, place your foot down and have it grip the road like glue.

I will be in the market for new boots shortly. Let me know if they really are waterproof if you get the chance.

I will find out this weekend, the forecast is for lots of rain and I am teaching a BRC and intend to wear them for a good test.

I have been in the market for boots for over a year now. I use work boots because I have not found a local place that stocks a decent variety. I just did some quick surfing for reviews on the Response SC, such as the one at Web Bike World which has some nice pictures of them. The reviews were all favorable. The only negative I read was that one buyer said he found the front too big and had trouble getting under the shifter.
You mention sizing instructions. A few reviews said they ran about 1 size big. Did your sizing take this into account or do you find them true to size?
When you're ready I would appreciate your thoughts on them.

| After I get a few miles on them I will give you an appraisal. I ordered the same size as I wear in street shoes and they fit fine. Maybe a little bigger than the same in a street shoe but it fits well. Certainly not a full size off anyway. |

| I spent the large part of this weekend slogging around in the rain on a parking lot covered in water, sometimes up to an inch deep. I am pleased to report my feet stayed dry, very dry in fact no water intrusion at all. I suspect if I were riding at speed in a heavy down pour water would find its way in around the large Velcro flap that covers the laces however. Nice boots very comfortable and warm. |

| I ordered a Tourmaster heated Jacket that just came in this afternoon. I will be breaking it in all weekend and provide a review thereafter. I believe heated gear fall under ATGATT because the cold can impair one's ability to focus 100% on riding. |

After doing some research, I went ahead and bought the boots which look great and provide the needed protection. Since this is my first safety gear boots, I was worried about size. I read somewhere that you order the same regular shoe size and in another place somebody advised that you need to go one size bigger. I decided to order the same size for a dress shoe. It was fine but fitting it in is a real battle. Taking it off is tough too.
I am posting this response for those who consider buying new boots to try it out before buying it online as I did. I also have a question for those who faced similar problem. Will such a tough boot eventually loosen and will fit in and out easily. Thanks |

I always buy important things like helmets and boots from a local store where I can try them on before buying them. I had to order the last pair of motorcycle boots that I bought, but they were shipped to the local Cycle Gear store and they told me that I wasn't committed to buying them if they didn't fit right.
Those boots are stiffer than any other boots I've ever had (except ski boots). After wearing them for a few hours I found one point on one of the boots that rubs my foot in a way that is bothersome. I did a few things to stretch them at that one point. After wearing them half a dozen times that wasn't a problem any longer. But if they had been too tight at the beginning, I wouldn't expect them to loosen up enough to eventually be comfortable. |

I find all motorcycle boots difficult to get on and off. If they have laces with a cover such as the boots that started this thread they are no exception. Make sure you get the laces all very lose before taking them on or off. I have found that you can't tell how well a boot will fit by how it goes on. The most comfortable boots I have while on my feet are the ones that are the most difficult to get on and off. You have to wear them awhile both on and off the motorcycle to determine how they are going to work out. And yes new boots do break in over time. |

I guess the timing is right for a comment. Santa (via my daughter) got me a pair of these boots for Christmas. The best workouts I have had all year have come from putting them on and taking them off. All I can say is that they are well worth the battle. I have found them to be one of the most comfortable footwears I have ever owned. I have also found that the socks I use make a huge difference in how much less hard it is to put them on and take them off.  The tighter the sweat sock the easier the task.
To put them on I get them about 2/3 in, jump on the highbar and do a double twist dismount. If I stick the landing they go right in. To get them off I loosen the laces and hook myself up to the gravity machine. After about 20 minutes of hanging upside down my feet come out (best to wear an old helmet with this method). I plan on losing about 10lbs so it may up the time to 25 minutes but like I said the comfort is worth it.

| I have a pair of these I got a few weeks ago. Tried them out for the first time yesterday, temp was about 30-32. With one pair of smartwool socks my feet stayed warm until I hit the freeway on the way home. I probably have room for another pair of socks as well. |

I've had a pair of the tour masters for 6 months and about 5000 miles - many of which were in the rain. They were stiff and uncomfrtable initially but once broken in they can't be beat. As far as rain proof ... not bad. My feet were minimally damp after a full day of riding in the rain.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. |

After looking at several boots, I went ahead and purchased the Tourmaster Solution Water Proof Boots.
I am very happy with them. Tall, but not too tall to be uncomfortable. Zipper side closure, with a velcro covering. Reflective oval on back of the boot.
The boots have armor for the outside ankle bone, and are very comfortable both on and off the bike. Although I have not stood in a 3" deep puddle with them, they have proven to be waterproof as advertised in some good thunderstorms.
Anyone with a high instep may have a problem getting them on and off, but they work great for me. I have had them for over a month now and am very pleased with them. Best $130.00 I ever spent on boots. |

Hi guys. New to the forum and new to my third bike after a long hiatus of kid years. You know the drill.
After some research, I too ordered up a pair of Tour Master Solutions from Amazon. You're right; if you have a high instep you will never get these boots on. I couldn't begin to get my foot in. I had to send them back. I ended up buying a pair of Shift 3/4 lace-ups locally. No way are they waterproof but they a very comfortable.
