Rural alert
Its that time of the year crops are coming in an slow moving farm machinery are all over the back roads
Had a pucker moment coming out of a blind turn an finding a pile of soy beans an inch thick across the road.
Made things far more interesting than I care for let me tell you. Had just enough time to straighten up be for I went thru it.
Lessen learned at this time of the year keep a close eye out for spills an take every turn like there is a pile just out of site

Extra careful is good. The general rules still apply: Scan ahead, recognize hazards, don't over-drive your ability to anticipate and adjust. And, of course, watch out for those deer! :-) |

It is an almost daily occurrence in MY parts, at this time of year.... spilled crops, or a slow moving combine. I assume that just beyond my field of vision, is a deadly hazard. So far, my assumption has paid off.
I never ride faster, than I can see to stop. In the real world, there are NO "corner workers" waving the yellow "caution" flag |

In other seasonal hazards... Leaves, especially wet ones. Not as prevalent in the cities, but out towards the smaller towns, they scatter across the roads, build up in the gutters and/or create 'drifts'. They can rob traction, and can hide other hazards like debris or deep potholes
Maybe not as bad further south or on the plains, but certainly something easy to overlook that can really mess up an otherwise lovely ride, and ubiquitous in sub-urban and rural New England. |

| And in Ohio hunting season and the rut has started, so the deer are moving around a lot more. |

I got within spittin' distance of one tonight (about 15' to 20'), looked like a yearling and wasn't the least bit spooked by the Jeep. This was on dirt road, about 3/4 mile from the river, but they're not very skiddish these days... Hope that one stays back by the river, 'cause if he comes out onto I-380, there's gonna' be some F=MA goin' on...
